    Overall Website SEO Analysis

Analyzing your website for SEO factors is an important part of optimizing your website for high search engine rankings. This article will discuss the different measurements needed to make a thorough analysis of your website, and gives instructions on how to conduct your own analysis.

Google Page Ranking (PR): Your Google page rank can be determined only if you use the Google Toolbar. The page ranking shows up in the browser when your Google Toolbar is set-up correctly. The Google PR is no longer a good indicator of how well the site is doing in the rankings, although it does show that your site is being indexed, it is not necessarily an indication tha you’re on top of search results, so don’t put too much weight on this factor alone.

Check Google Backlinks: The number of inbound links to your site is very important for determining your SEO standing. Check them by clicking the arrow next to the PageRank indicator on the Google Toolbar. Example Please note that Google is notorious for not giving the accurate number of backlinks from the Toolbar. It is my opinion that Google shows the most important links from the toolbar, though that is just a theory.

You can set up a Google Webmaster Account if you have access to your code. The Webmaster Tools section will give a more complete list of your inbound links. You can also use this awesome Google Searchbliss Backlink Checker Tool.

Yahoo Backlinks: Yahoo is notorious for giving a correct number of inbound links. Check your Yahoo Backlinks by going to http://www.Yahoo.com and typing in “link:http://www.dalecorbett.com” in the search box. (Replace the domain with your domain name.)You will be transported to the Yahoo Site Explorer which gives you all sorts of goodies, in addition to the list of backlinks coming into your website. Your results should look like this: Frisco Real Estate (Replace the domain with your domain name.)

Number of Pages on Website: Another important factor for SEO is the number of pages of your website. The more, the better. You can find out the total number of pages of your site in the Yahoo Site Explorer as well. Just go to http://www.yahoo.com/ and type in “link:http://www.dalecorbett.com/” (Replace the domain with your domain name.) The number of pages will be at the top, right next to the total number of inlinks. Remember, all these links do not help you the same, some links count substantially more than others. Yahoo just shows everything.

DMOZ Link: Another SEO factor for your website is whether it’s listed in the DMOZ. The DMOZ is a human-edited directory that’s been around a long time. It’s difficult to get in this directory, so if you’re in it, you’re blessed. Go to the site located here: http://www.dmoz.org/ and type your website name in the search box. If results turn up, you’re blessed! If two results turn up, you’re double blessed!

Domain Age: The age of your domain is pretty important for SEO. The older the better. Check the age of your domain by using this nifty Domain Age Tool.

Alexa Ranking: While not a main factor, the Alexa Ranking of your website is telling. The lower your Alexa Ranking, the the more heavily visited your website. Check your Alexa Ranking by going to Alexa and signing up for the toolbar. I personally wouldn’t do this since they track everything you do and it’s like Spyware. If you really want this info, it is now given only to users of the Alexa Toolbar.

    Analysis for Specific Keyword Phrases

AllinTitle: Check how your website is ranking for title only by going to Google and typing in:[ allintitle:keyword phrase. You will get a list of rankings. These results show you how you are ranking for your Title Meta Tag only. The closer your site is to the top of these rankings, the better. Example>: Frisco Real Estate My client, Dale Corbett is ranking #16 for “Frisco Real Estate,” and is showing a rank of #16 for AllinTitle. See the correlation below. Once you’ve done all the keyword specific search analysis, you’ll be able to see a definite pattern unfold.

    Frisco Real Estate

    allintitle: 16
    Actual Rank: 16

    Frisco Homes

    allintitle: 6
    Actual Rank: 5

AllinAnchor: Go to google and type in “allinanchor:keyword phrase” and get the results for how you rank for inbound anchor text links. My client, Dale Corbett is ranking #5 for “Frisco Homes,” on Google. See below.

    Frisco Real Estate

    allinanchor: 16
    Actual Rank: 16

    Frisco Homes

    allinanchor: 5
    Actual Rank: 5

AllinURL: All in URL tells you the rank of your site when compared to other sites in the URL for the keyword phrase. Same thing, go to Google and type in: “allinurl: keyword phrase” to get an accurate ranking for your website. My client, Dale Corbett, a Frisco Real Estate Agent, is ranking as follows:

    Frisco Real Estate

    allinurl: 7
    Actual Rank: 16

    Frisco Homes

    allinurl: 0
    Actual Rank: 5

AllinText: Last but not least, we have the AllinText ranking to measure. Follow the same instructions as above, but use “allintext” instead. Here are the results for my client, Dale Corbett:

    Frisco Real Estate

    allintext: 16
    Actual Rank: 16

    Frisco Homes

    allintext: 5
    Actual Rank: 5
