Writer's Guidelines | Web Content Writing

The Marketing Shop is currently seeking writers to assist with our growing portfolio of web marketing clients across the US. We are looking for experienced web content writers who have been published online. Knowledge of search engine optimization techniques and sales copywriting skills are helpful.

Web Content Overview

The Marketing Shop is not a typical web design firm. We  are a full-service web marketing solution for our clients. We handle the entire task of web design, including researching and writing the entire website from A to Z.

It's a Matter of Excellence

Writers able to catch this vision of excellence will be paid well for their work. It's not about your wit or your use of big words. It's about whether you understand the audience, and whether you understand how to write for the web. Writing for the web is different--nothing like writing for print. We need keyword rich content that is informative and interesting.

The type of writing we are looking for is detailed, concise and written for the way that people read the web. We’re not looking for a Pulitzer—just clean, detailed, precise and factual writing that is interesting to read and search engine friendly. The more you can write about a particular topic, the better.

The Client's Success is Our #1 Priority

We care about the success of our clients. We want them to be successful.  We want their websites to add value to their bottom line. We refuse to skimp and offer sub-standard work even if we'll profit more. Going the extra mile is the norm.

Lead Generating Websites

The Marketing Shop is in business to develop lead generating websites that produce results. Lead generating websites are jam-packed with information. Many of our "How To" type articles are devoid of sales chatter. We are still able to compel our visitors to by giving them the information they crave. Website visitors respond to those websites that give them what they want.

When you are writing for us, please keep in mind that the ultimate goal is to compel the person reading the article to take action.

Typical Assignments

Your first assignment will be to write a sample article for us based upon a current need. If your web content writing sample meets our criteria you will be paid for the work. If not, we will tell you what you can do to improve it, but we will not pay for work that does not fit our web content requirements.

Once we see that your writing style is in line with what we want to offer our clients, we will contact you directly with assignments on a regular basis. For each assignment you will be given detailed instructions and the budget we will pay for the job.

Intuitive Web Content Writing

Alot of our writing is intuitive based, perhaps because the company founder is highly intuitive.

Explicit instructions are not given for each assignment. We will not always have explicit instructions for each writing assignment. In some cases, you will need to research other websites in the industry (ie: competitors) to see what others are doing and create content based on that. If you get something wrong, we can always remove it.

Sometimes we help clients figure out who they are. We take ownership of the website content process, helping clients at time to expand thier own business offerings. There are some services that our clients provide that are not yet put into words, but are mentioned on other websites. We take advantage of our competitor and industry knowledge and research to come up with services even when the
client hasn't mentioned it to us directly.

Some Web Content Projects will require you to make decisions of what to write based upon your own knowledge. There will be times when you will need to conjure up points based upon your own experience from a marketing perspective. For example, in an article entitled "Real Estate Marketing Strategy," you would need to ask yourself, "What would I want my Realtor to do in selling my house?" The key here is to provide unique, relevant content for the end user. The emphasis should be on unique, and should require thought on part of the writer.

General Content Overview

- All web content must be written for the web and SEO.
- Write for the Information Age.
- Answer every question that your readers may have about the subject at hand.
- Keeps your audience from clicking away to get answers elsewhere.

Search Engine Optimization

When writing for the web it's important to be search engine friendly. You will be given a list of keywords to use when you are assigned a project. Weave these keywords into the titles and copy of your text discreetly. We do not want to have obvious repetition in the content. Strike a balance between SEO and easy visitor comprehension.

Web Content Submission Format

We prefer to receive your web content submissions in HTML Format using only the following style tags. If you do not know HTML, please send all work in TXT format using plain Notepad. This is because MS Word inserts code into the content that requires us to scrub. When we scrub an MS Word document, it removes the formatting.

Pages should be submitted in HTML or TXT only.
